Bill C-9 has been approved by the senate and will now return to the house of commons for approval before proceeding to receive royal assent to become law.
The bill in its current form continues to raise several significant concerns, including the absence of certain prosecutorial safeguards, the introduction of vague and overly broad offences related to “intimidation” and “obstruction,” and an expanded scope that extends beyond places of worship.
Our concerns with the bill remain the same.
We urge parliamentarians to vote against this legislation and pursue measures that effectively address hate while safeguarding fundamental freedoms and maintaining public confidence in Canada's legal framework.
